Google Hangouts has had a significant batch of updates for enterprise users. Hangouts are now supported just the same as all of the other Google Apps for Business, which includes terms of service, certifications, and 99.9% guaranteed uptime. Third-party solutions providers now have a bunch of extra utilities available to extend Hangouts further in business. Admins can now remotely start, mute, and end a meeting, in addition to managing other Google Apps from their dedicated console.

7/30/2014 10:33:53 AM

Huawei has had a good year, according to the latest market share numbers from IDC. Between the second quarter of 2013 and the second quarter of 2014, Huawei has enjoyed a huge 95.1 percent increase in smartphone shipments, placing them in third place behind Apple and Samsung, and ahead of Lenovo and LG. Previously they were fifth place in the rankings. Huawei's global market share works out to 6.9 percent with more than 20 million in shipments in the second quarter, versus 4.3 percent (10.4 million) last year. Samsung's shipments dipped 3.9 percent in the same period, while Apple's climbed 12.4 percent.

Archos Smart Home gets you connected, but you can probably do better
7/30/2014 10:09:24 AM

A tablet, cameras and movement tags make up this $250 kit

Archos recently released their latest offering in the connected home space, dubbed Smart Home. We first checked out the system back at CES in January, and Archos has recently made the starter kit available in the U.K.

The Archos Smart Home system offers smaller, less expensive components than most other systems but still boasts many of the same features (and is also lacking a few). The $250 starter pack includes an Archos tablet, two mini-cams, two movement tags, and two weather tags. The entire setup works not over Wifi, but over Bluetooth Smart (AKA Bluetooth LE). This means that the modules can last for a year on a single battery — which makes for less hassle and less worry — and more awesomeness. You can use the Smart Home system with a companion app on Android and iOS, though everything first routes through the included Android tablet via your home Wi-Fi network.

Bell, Virgin, SaskTel, and Sony Stores across Canada will be offering up the Xperia T3 starting in August. The Xperia T3 isn't top-of-the-line by any means with 1 GB of RAM and a quad-core 1.4 GHz processor, but the 5.3-inch 1280 x 720 Bravia display may be enough for students heading back to school, especially if the price is right.

7/30/2014 8:44:40 AM

Samsung has covered a lot of health and fitness bases on the Galaxy S5

Health and fitness has a big focus in the Samsung Galaxy S5, something we learned from the very moment it was introduced on stage. Samsung is making it easy to get involved in tracking your activity with the heart rate sensor on the back of the phone and the first-party S Health application.

S Health is a nice and easy way to pay more attention to your activity levels without the need for any wristbands or paying for any apps. Here's what it can do for you.

7/30/2014 8:40:40 AM

The iFixit team managed to get their hands on a Galaxy S5 Mini for a teardown, and found that the device has a lot in common with its standard sized sibling, the Galaxy S5. Both devices for instance feature the same dust and water resistance seal, as well as the micro-SIM tray and the microSD card slot. The Galaxy S5 Mini also retains the fingerprint scanner and the heart rate sensor at the back from the Galaxy S5.
