Chromebook reviews: Find 'em all here!
7/31/2014 7:14:42 PM

A one-stop shop for all your Chromebook review needs

We're all Google all day around here. We can't get enough when it comes to Android, and Lloyd happens to have a place in his heart for Chromebooks, too. We're big fans, and we just love seeing a platform like Chrome grow — and stumble — as it matures. We know that plenty of you guys feel the same way, and it's great that we can get together and talk about things knowing that we all share some common interest. It makes our jobs fun.

While we love having fun, we also are pretty serious about looking at new Chromebooks and sharing what we think. This helps us stay up-to-date on what companies like Acer and Samsung are doing in the space, and it helps everyone know a little bit more about these products before money leaves our wallets. It doesn't hurt that more than a few of us here at AC just freaking love our Chromebooks, either.

Here's a list of all of our Chromebook reviews. We're going to keep doing them, and we'll keep this list updated.

Verizon's LG G Pad 8.3 gets KitKat update
7/31/2014 6:13:20 PM

Though many may have forgotten that the device exists, Verizon has just started pushing out an Android 4.4.2 KitKat update to the LG G Pad 8.3. The update that started rolling to unlocked G Pad 8.3 customers back in April is now on the Verizon model, bumping things to KitKat, changing the visual styling of the interface (including Immersive Mode) and adding the Knock Code lockscreen option.

T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3 also receiving nondescript VoLTE-related update
7/31/2014 5:53:12 PM

T-Mobile's Galaxy Note 3 seems to be picking up the same update treatment as its Galaxy S5 did earlier today, with two different updates hitting devices depending on what version of software they're currently on. For those who were in a VoLTE market and received the first update to enable that service, a 25.79MB update is coming to bring you up to the most recent version, N900TUVUDNF4.

Amazon Appstore now in more countries
7/31/2014 4:32:30 PM

Amazon says that its Appstore for Android is now available in 236 countries and territories following this recent expansion of 41 more regions. That said, not all apps within the Amazon Appstore catalog will be available in all regions due to local laws and restrictions on certain apps and content. However, for consumers, this will be another venue to purchase and download apps, which will be especially beneficial to BlackBerry customers who rely on Amazon's Appstore to deliver Android apps to their devices.

How to use the Samsung Galaxy S5 as a flashlight
7/31/2014 4:17:53 PM

We've all been there. We've all at some point in our lives needed a flashlight and we've only got our phone in our pocket. There have been flashlight apps for as long as there have been flashes on phone cameras but fortunately on the Samsung Galaxy S5 they're completely unnecessary.

'BadUSB' malware highlights the danger of plugging random mystery drives into your computer
7/31/2014 4:14:56 PM

Another day, another apocalyptic prognostication of computer security doom, this time focusing on the omnipresent USB connection. It's called 'BadUSB', and it's a malware proof-of-concept created by security researchers Karsten Nohl and Jakob Lell that exploits a flaw in and resides in the firmware that controls the basic function of USB devices. The researchers claim that it's not a problem that can be patched, saying that they're "exploiting the very way that USB is designed," but in the end all they've done is highlight that you shouldn't go around plugging USB drives, devices, or whatnot that you don't trust into your computer.
